For this assignment, I was tasked to come up with different motifs that I wanted to incorporate in to a series of prints. To inspire me, I thought of traditional Indian motifs and decided to use shapes reminiscent of the paisley and floral designs but modernise them. I combined the traditional designs with the graphic symbols used in pop art to come up with new motifs. Then, I tested the motifs in multiple colorways (yellow and green colorway shown below). For the final series, I chose a blue and white colorway and decided to highlight a different motif in each one and include lots of layering movement.
